You’re here for a reason. You’re looking for a VBO with a very specific skill set who can get the job done. However, the VBO talent pool is wide. You may be wondering how to go about finding the right one to work with. In reality, finding the right VBO isn’t too different from finding the right employee. Here are a few things you should consider that will help you decide on the right VBO:

Consider the time zone.

Depending on the nature of the job you’re hiring for, you may need to communicate with your VBO frequently. If that’s the case, you’ll want to find VBOs whose time zone differs by no more than three hours. That way, you’ll have enough overlap in your working hours to communicate effectively.

Look for VBOs with a can-do attitude.

Every VBO on VBO Hub has a profile. Look for VBOs who talk about their proactivity and professionalism in positive terms on their profiles. Pay attention to how they describe themselves and consider whether they would fit in well with your team dynamic.

Ask for examples of their work.

Words are cheap in a court of law. What you need is proof. And the same applies when hiring VBOs. You need proof of their abilities, so be sure to ask for a portfolio or samples of their work. That way, you can determine whether a candidate has the skills you’re looking for.

Ensure they have the basics for business.

There are two things that every VBO needs at a minimum to work successfully: a reliable high-speed internet connection and a quiet place to work. Ensure that your candidates have both of these things.

Conduct a phone interview.

Phone interviews are a great way to narrow down your candidate pool. Ask VBOs about their past freelancing experience, time management skills, work process, and rates among other things. Getting on the phone will also help you get a feel for their personality.

Have a trial period.

If possible, consider hiring your top two candidates for a five to ten-hour project. Let them both know that this project is a trial, and you’ll make the final determination upon completion of the project. This allows you to put their skills and experience to the test so that you can decide on the best fit for the job.
